Diabetes is an all too common disease in Australia. It generates a range of threats to a person’s health and well-being if it is left unchecked and untreated.

Progression of diabetes damages the small blood vessels in your body, causing the walls of blood vessels to stiffen. This increases blood pressure. The combination of high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes greatly increases your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

The presence of diabetes can lead to other diseases including kidney disease and eye diseases.

People with diabetes require regular and uncomfortable medical interventions such as blood sugar testing and injecting insulin. Exercise must be managed carefully. This can all affect a person’s mental health and sense of well-being.

Infra-red sauna has been shown in scientific studies (listed below) to:

  • improve impaired insulin sensitivity and boost vascular health – mimicking the effect of exercise
  • lower blood pressure and body weight
  • reduce stress and fatigue from diabetes

There is a higher adherence to regular IR sauna compared to other interventions such as exercise, making it a pleasant and an attractive treatment option as part of a whole treatment plan for someone with diabetes.
